Andrew James Teaters, 29 of Mesa, was accused of three counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of sexual abuse after he admitted to police that he had sex with one of his year-old students in his classroom, according to police officials. Teaters told detectives he had sexual intercourse with the student and fondled her at Gilbert Early College. According to a court document, police began investigating Teaters after they received an anonymous tip in June that he had sex with the year-old.
The girl told police that the relationship was mutual and that she willingly had sex with Teaters. However, in Arizona, state law prohibits sexual acts with those 18 years old or younger.
