To be honest, I have read several comments online that make me kind of nervous. I will be travelling with my husband but would like to know which areas to avoid. I live in Ottawa and know which areas to avoid but Calgary is kind of scary to me since this is my first time visiting. For those who live in Calgary or are frequent visitors, do you have any advice to give me pertaining to safety issues?
Thanks for your help. Downtown Calgary is pretty dead at night but that doesn't mean you'll end up dead as well, unless it's from boredom. The East Village is a haven for drug-dealing and south of that, Victoria Park, is where some prostitutes hang out although due to the condo development in the area, it is being transformed. I suggest you just stay inside your hotel room and watch some pay-per-view.
Thanks for the reply. What about during the day? Is it safe to walk around? To be honest, you are kind of scaring me since the hotel is very close to the train station. I guess if I want to visit I should probably leave the downtown area. Despite my previous post, Calgary is pretty safe. Feel free to walk around.
Unlike in downtown Vancouver, downtown Calgary doesn't really have a vibrant urban atmosphere at night. Have fun in Calgary. Calgary is very safe during the day and IMHO safe at night too.
