We have more newsletters. Jeremy Ireland was dismissed after someone told bosses that they had seen spanking images on his screen. Mr Ireland, described at an employment tribunal in Birmingham as an administrator worker, claimed someone else must have downloaded images of spanking. Mr Ireland, who lives in Cheylesmore, has made a compensation claim against the Coventry-based university for unfair dismissal and denies he was responsible.
A person, who was not named, saw the images and complained to the management. An investigation was carried out and Mr Ireland was suspended on full pay and eventually dismissed. Professor Michael Shipman told the tribunal he was on the disciplinary committee at which Mr Ireland attended. It was eventually decided that the images were his responsibility. He denied an accusation by Mr Ireland that he had been dismissed to avoid being made redundant to save costs.
