The victim said a neighbor overheard her pleas for help and knocked on her door, which distracted Byrd long enough to push him off. The victim said Byrd fled when she answered the door. The neighbor told police she heard the victim screaming for help and knocked on the door. The test results from the victim showed a DNA match from Byrd, according to a warrant.
During an interview with police, Byrd admitted knowing the victim and said he had hung out with her and her boyfriend. He also said he bought and sold drugs with the victim but denied ever having sexual contact with her.
