Screening Buyers of Goods on Craigslist Post by DTalos » Sun Mar 24, pm As a private seller, when selling large tangible goods on Craigslist, that cannot be easily transported to a public safe space or when selling an expensive item like a car, how do you screen buyers?
When I have posted ads for a car or a couch, I get a lot of responses in the first few hours after the posting and then hardly anything thereafter. The majority of responses do not include a complete name or phone number. The name in the "from" or "sender" line will either be a handle or a first name and then no phone number. These responses will be vague, demanding or cryptic.
Examples are along the lines of "sup, couch still for sale? These are red flags of buyers that I don't want to deal with. The buyers that do leave their name and phone number when I call them back, they ask "which car or which couch do you have? What do you think about asking a potential buyers for a link to their social media profile or biography on a company website if they have one to get a sense of who you might be dealing with?
