Currently, we are on an alternating enrollment for otolaryngology residents, having received the approval of an extra half resident per year in to reflect the rapid growth of the residency program. The residents have naturally been a close-knit group who have been extremely supportive of each other which enhances their learning experience. Our program is dynamic and growing. We are continuing to add faculty and subspecialists to provide the most comprehensive clinical services for our patients and training for our residents.
We look forward to training the next generation of otolaryngologists. It is our mission to provide our residents with the education, opportunities, and experience to become exemplary and well-rounded otolaryngologists, so they can provide the highest level of care to their patients and communities in their future practice.
Our program started in and graduated our first resident in Since then, our department has undergone exciting growth, which is reflected in the growing variety of otolaryngologic pathology we treat, faculty expansion and recruitment, fellowships and career paths of our graduated residents, and the approved increase in our resident complement. We are currently matriculating trainees in an alternating enrollment, having accepted our first class of two residents during the academic year.
The otolaryngology head and neck surgery residency at UNLV offers a unique training experience. Southern Nevada is home to over 2 million residents, disproportionately underserved with otolaryngologists. UNLV is the only otolaryngology training program for hundreds of miles. As such, residents have ample opportunity to see and treat the full spectrum of otolaryngologic subspecialties, pathology, and acuity.
You will also treat patients in a variety of settings, including a busy county hospital, our suburban outpatient clinic, and community hospitals. As a program with a small resident complement, the educational experience is resident-focused and highly individualized β ensuring not only that residents meet their training milestones, but often allowing them to progress at a pace beyond their graduate year when they demonstrate the skill, confidence, and accountability to move forward in their education.
