El Paso police arrested three men from the Houston area accused of snatching a bag of cash from a year-old man after he was followed home from a Wells Fargo bank, officials said. In recent months, El Paso has seen similar "jugging" thefts targeting customers followed after withdrawing money at banks. Crime: Socorro police arrest wanted gang member in gun, shooting cases. The recent jugging case was described by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Lamberth during a teleconference bond hearings for the suspects on Monday, Jan.
A senior citizen told police that he went to a Wells Fargo bank, N. Mesa St. The bank customer drove home, parked and was walking to his residence when he heard brakes screeching.
Moments later, he felt someone grab his arm and steal the money bag. The senior saw the thief run to the passenger seat of a waiting vehicle that drove away. The prosecutor said that police found security camera footage showing the suspects' vehicle following the customer from the bank moments before the money was stolen.
An hour later, officers located the vehicle parked in the first row outside a Wells Fargo. Crime: Customers followed from El Paso banks in 'jugging' burglaries.
After setting up surveillance, police detained three men after the driver opened a door and officers detected the odor of marijuana and saw marijuana in plain view in the vehicle, Lamberth said.
