Both in terms of the refugees in their own right and as a forerunner of recent developments, it makes particular sense to look at the first large group of immigrants the Free State experienced and to try to learn from that experience about the impact immigrants can have and have had on Ireland β while also looking at how their experiences in Ireland impacted on the exiles.
