Corvallis police have charged a year-old man with first-degree sexual assault, attempted rape and seven counts of burglary after finding his cell phone in a home near Oregon State University where a sexual assault was reported.
Early Wednesday, a woman was taking a shower, she told police, when a man entered her home, took off his clothes, got into the shower with her and sexually assaulted her. He then dressed and left, she told police. Investigators later discovered a cell phone they concluded "was likely dropped by the suspect. The phone belonged to Ronald Wesley Vaughan, 22, of Corvallis, police said. After locating him and examining his clothing, police charged him with first-degree sexual assault and attempted rape.
The woman lives about six blocks north of the Oregon State University campus. Corvallis police and Oregon State Police who work on the Oregon State campus said they also connected Vaughan to a series of burglaries that took place late Tuesday or early Wednesday in the same neighborhood where the woman was attacked and in Cauthorn Hall, an OSU dorm. They charged him with six counts of first-degree burglary, three for incidents on campus and three in the city of Corvallis.
