It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Bertalou Schafer of Overland Park, Kansas, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 18 th. Bertalou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, whose life reflected an unwavering love for Christ, her family, and all those fortunate enough to know her.
Bertalou had been in and out of the hospital and rehab after several health issues emerged. Polly returned to Colorado and in a phone conversation, Bert told Polly she was done with procedures and hospitalizations and requested that Polly attempt to have her accepted into the Hospice House. The day before Polly was to return, Bert was accepted at the Hospice House, and a few hours later, passed peacefully. Bertalou had to bury two husbands as well as several children, but despite her sadness, her heart was filled warmth, kindness, unshakable optimism and her deep compassion for others.
Her heart for Christ and her friends was evident in every part of her life. While we will miss her deeply, we will take comfort in knowing she is now the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ, whom she loved so much.
Per her wishes, a celebration of life will be held in the Spring. Niece ,Kendallville ,Indiana. I always say that when I grow up I aspire to be Aunt Bert. Her unwavering love optimism and commitment to family was evident in everything she did My heart goes out to Polly Kay who I am sure is feeling the loss.
